welcome to the tales of our crazy life

I'm Heather. I'm over-caffeinated, under appreciated and constantly amused by these two crazy peeps we call our daughters.

I started this blog in April 2006 because I don't want to forget a single second of this awesome life. Why a blog? Because I'm a slacker. That's why.

Baby books? I'd actually have to find a pen. Have you SEEN my house? (Shhhhhhht...NOT a question). Scrapbooking? Puh-lease. When you can add six more hours in the day MAYBE we'll talk about it. I do like to sleep. Occasionally.

Lucee Picasso

The Lu has really taken to drawing lately and while I'm her mother and I'm completely biased, you have to admit, she's pretty damn good. This is her latest drawing and I'm thinking it needs to be matted and framed for her room.

Long Overdue

It's been a while since I've photographed my kids. And I forgot how much I loved it. (When I'm not bribing them with ice cream for dinner and iPod apps, that is.)

I caught these two of The Lu at the new studio a couple of weeks ago. Oh, how I love that little squirt!

Overheard

LU : Sissy, I'm gonna cover this cake with white fondant.

ROO : No, you need to dirty ice it with buttercream first.

Cake Boss, much, girls?

She's So Thug

Yesterday, Roo hosted auditions for the band she's putting together and today The Lu decided to take advantage of the karaoke machine a friend loaned us. She's so thug. And I'm so proud.

Her Own Christmas Story

Lucee put her own twist on A Christmas Story during a dinner table game of truth or dare when she exclaimed, "Dare me to lick the Christmas tree! Dare me to lick the Christmas tree! Puh-leeeeeease!"

She did it. And she said it tasted good. She obviously gets her weirdo gene from her Daddy.

Definitely Her Daddy's Daughter

I've always been both baffled by and somewhat jealous of my husband's ability to fall asleep anytime, anywhere. He's fallen asleep at get togethers with friends. At family holidays. At the movies on one of our first dates.

Early on in our relationship I officially diagnosed him with occupational narcolepsy. (Because I'm totally a doctor.) And I give him shit about it every chance I get.

While she can't blame it on her occupation, she can blame genetics. The Lu inherited her father's ability to fall asleep anytime, anywhere.

Ladies and gentleman, I give you Exhibit A. The defendant can be seen sleeping at Arrowhead Stadium during a Taylor Swift concert attended by 50,000 people.

Proof that she is her Daddy's daughter.

I rest my case.

Acsadets Happen

Acsadets happen. How you choose to handle them defines your character.

The girls were at our house with Grandma today. I came home and found this sweet note atop a broken frame. I couldn't help but smile and be proud.

The Devil Made Her Do It

Or was it the dragon?

No. It was her sister.

Differences

Roo to Lu : The smell from your botox is disgusting.

Dear Roo,

There's a big difference between botox and buttocks.

This is botox.

(image via hot celebrity)

That disgusting smell you just got a whiff of came from your sister's buttocks.

Hope that clears the air. Pun intended.

Love,
Mom

Where's Tim Gunn When I Need Him?

I came home to some serious Project Runway action this afternoon. Roo and Lu declared that they were having a "majorly serious fashion design competition".

Chris and I couldn't possibly pick the winner and I seem to have misplaced Tim Gunn's number. (DESIIIIIIIIIIGNNNERSSS...)

So...Roo asked me to blog their designs and get our readers to vote for their favorite. (Does my girl know how to work the internet or what?)

To keep this "majorly serious fashion design competition" fair I won't say who created which design so please leave a comment to vote for the design on the left or the right.

The stakes are high, people! Winner gets double dessert tonight.

Pool Time

What happens when a photographer mom asks her swimming kids to stop and pose for a picture at the pool?

And...now back to regularly scheduled programming.

Happy Summer, friends!

Future Man Repeller

Looks like The Lu is on her way to becoming the next Man Repeller.

If you've not read The Man Repeller yet, you're totally missing out!

Carnies

Tonight we hit the school carnival. And we all know my peeps never miss their chance to cheese it up for the camera.

These Days Won't Last Forever

It's Saturday night. Chris and I had been planning to go to a birthday party for a friend and the girls were all set to spend the night at Grandma's.
Just before we put the girls in the shower Lu asked the question I hope she never stops asking, "Do we have to go to Grandma's?"
"Yeah, we'd rather stay home with you guys tonight," said Roo.
There was no discussion. No debate. No doubt. My kids WANT to hang out with me. And I'm going to make it happen for I know it won't be long until we're the LAST people they want to spend their Saturday nights with. But I'm not quite ready to talk about that yet.
So, for now, we're enjoying those two little squirts who still think we're cool.

Seven

I can't believe we're celebrating The Lu's seventh birthday. It seems like yesterday we were in the hospital struggling to decide on a name for our squishy little babe.
Here we are seven years later and she's the girl with a million nicknames. It didn't take long for Lucee Olivia to become Lucee Lu, Lulu, Papa Lu, Lula Bean, Lula Belle, Louie, Tallulah, Tallulah Mae and of course, The Lu.
And when it comes to names she lives by the same theory as Papa. She doesn't care what you call her as long as you call her in time for supper.
To celebrate her birthday we had a fabulous face painting party. The uber-talented MJ and Cody from Sister Act Face Painting made her party absolutely unforgettable!

Happy Seventh Birthday Lu! We love you more than anything in the world.
